At the Museo degli Argenti of Palazzo Pitti, in Florence, will open an exhibition on gems collecting that characterized the Italian Renaissance. Besides presenting a selected number of pieces of exceptional quality from the most important Italian and international museums, the exhibition will illustrate the complex history of cameos and carvings collection made by Cosimo, Piero and especially by Lorenzo de’ Medici, who purchases prestigious specimens as the so-called Seal of Nero, the splendid cornelian with Apollo and Marsyas.
